I2S / DIGITAL SERIAL

NATIVE ACCESS TO CHIP LEVEL DIGITAL AUDIO FOR ANY AUDIO ANALYZER

PIO-9216 for R&D and production QC

Works with any software-based analyzer via USB or use SPDIF input to add native I2S connectivity and other digital serial formats to any audio analyzer

Variable logic levels down to 1.2V to measure modern ICs without overloading them

Dedicated monitor for output to an oscilloscope with no additional load on the device under test

Bit-accurate pass-through option via SPDIF

Chip level digital audio for I2S and TDM

The Portland Tool & Die PIO-9216 programmable serial audio data interface provides a simple and direct connection between circuit board components such DSPs, DACs, ADCs, CODECS , etc. and your audio test system.

This enables accurate testing of devices that use the I2S, Left Justified, Right Justified and TDM audio data formats which is valuable in the R&D lab for evaluating and de-bugging circuit board designs, and is also common on the production line, for example, for testing / QC of circuit boards before installation into a device.

Independent clocks for maximum flexibility

The programmable serial port offers discrete master, bit, and frame clocks. The master clock can operate at up to 50 MHz and can be generated or received. The bit and frame clocks are source synchronous and can also be generated or received. The alignment of data inside the data frame, the size of the data frame and NxFS ratio of the master clock are all independently programmable

Buffered monitor outputs

The data terminal, which uses 50 Ohm BNC connectors, is bidirectional and can be set to transmit or receive data. Each input/output connector is buffered and reflected on a dedicated monitor interface which allows an oscilloscope to monitor or sniff the signals without loading the circuit under test.

Bit-accurate audio pass-through mode

The PIO-9216 interfaces to digital systems with 8 to 24 bit audio samples and from 4 to 216 kHz sample rates and it supports one or two channels. The decoded audio is available for direct interface to a computer over USB audio interface. For engineers using a hardware based analyzer, SPDIF is also supported.

The instrument uses an internal sample rate converter to translate between the I2S data stream and the USB and SPDIF data interface. In practical use this means that it is not necessary to exactly match sample rates between the host system and the I2S device. However if a bit-for-bit translation between I2S and SPDIF is desired, it can be achieved by enabling Direct Mode.

Fully compatible with any audio analyzer

All PT&D interfaces support high quality USB audio streaming. Depending on the model, PT&D interfaces can also connect via SPDIF. USB is ideal for software based analyzers such as Listen Soundcheck. For hardware-based analyzers such as an AP 2700 Series or Rohde & Schwarz UPV, SPDIF or USB audio can be used.

AUDIO CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS

USB AUDIO

Appears in OS like any other USB external audio interface. Ideal for software-based analyzers like Listen SoundCheck or hardware analyzers that can access USB audio streams. Mac or Windows.

SPDIF AUDIO

Offers more flexibility in handling audio data streams than USB. Ideal for hardware-based analyzers with a DIO or connection to software-based analyzers that use an ASIO-supported external audio interface.

CONTROL OPTIONS

WINDOWS CONTROL APP

Control every parameter from the command line. Integrate into a master test application, or call from your analyzer control software. Appears natively within Listen SoundCheck.

TOUCHSCREEN

Access every parameter directly from the front panel for on-the-fly configuration changes or troubleshooting. Save test setups to on-board memory.
