Our story
Portland Tool & Die supports audio engineers around the world with high performance digital audio interfaces that are designed to get out of the way and let engineers get on with their job using their existing test equipment and methodology.
Co-founders Daniel Knighten and Kristopher Hett met at Audio Precision, where Daniel served as both head of products and VP of sales and Kristopher was the software engineering manager.
With AP itself a spinoff from T&M pioneer Tektronix, Portland Tool & Die is proud to continue a 70 year heritage of high end test & measurement equipment dedicated to helping engineers bring new and innovative products to market.
The company is based in Portland, Oregon, and all instruments are designed and manufactured here.
COMPANY TIMELINE
PT&D introduced the DCC-1448 MEMS/PDM interface in 2012, followed quickly by the BQC-4148, a ruggedized version for the production line. Engineers were soon asking for other connectivity options, and Portland Tool has continued to deliver with the BTC-4148 and BQC-4148 for Bluetooth and the PIO-9216 for I2S and other serial audio.
In 2014, Portland Tool & Die signed an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Listen, Inc., providers of the industry standard SoundCheck audio test software.
